The Shukurov Marketing Group story — how it all began

A chance meeting
I studied psychology in Moscow. Psychology taught me the one thing that later shaped all of my work: people don't make decisions the way they say they do, and behind every click there is a motive. One day in Moscow I happened to meet someone who worked in SMM. Back then the term meant almost nothing — but for me it became the point where everything began.
Back to Baku
I returned to Baku and kept studying — I enrolled in a master's programme. But I already knew I wanted a business, not a diploma. Six months later I left the programme and started working on my own.
First steps — freelancing
I started out as a freelancer. My first client was the Centre for Political Psychology in Baku — the place where my background and my new craft came together perfectly. From there the client base grew, and along the way I came to a key realisation: one person cannot sustain quality at scale.
The turning point: the Khozyayushka store
The project with the Khozyayushka store was a watershed moment in my career. It was there that I understood two things. First — advertising can drive sales systematically, not just 'run ads'. Second — to hold that result for many clients, you need a team. That is when our principle was born: we don't do what doesn't deliver results.
From freelancer to agency
That is how Shukurov Marketing Group came to be. Within the first ~1.5 years we were working with major brands. We have managed $6M of client advertising budget in 2023, and 100+ active clients work with us — from retail to banks and real estate. We still measure not likes, but leads, cost per client and revenue.
Epilogue
I started alone, with a psychology degree and a chance conversation. Today I am proud to introduce the team that stands behind every manat our clients invest.
